So, I’m back from NYCC and then Luther Strode Anniversary Signings.

All of which went super well. It was one of those sort of magic conventions where everything that COULD have gone my way did. I haven’t had a lot of those, the last few years.

I love New York Comic Con. I was at the first one, although I didn’t start tabling until…2012 I think? And in twenty years I’ve only missed two. It’s generally a good show for getting work and seeing people, and it’s often a big selling show for me, although it’s incredibly expensive, so I only occasionally actually make money AT the show. Which, honestly, is kind of how it goes for writers. When you don’t have original art or commissions it takes a LOT of sales to make a profit.

It’s a little bit of a mixed bag for me the last few years. In 2022 I had a heart attack (nearly fatal, although I’m fine now, somehow) two days after the con, and had some kind of event while I was at the con which, being a dude, I ignored. This all gives me some vague dread about the show, through no fault of the show.

One surprise about this NYCC, and this is my smooth ass segue, is how many people came up and talked to me about my Youtube channel Death Or Comics. Which, yes, was named before the heart attack thing. Ah irony.

Death Or Comics is basically me rambling about how to make comics and what the comic industry is like. We debuted in July and it’s been going well. Still, we’re at like 1800ish subs right now, and I had a good forty people talk to me about it. That’s like two percent of the subscribers. Wild.

Anyway, if you want to watch it here’s some recent videos

And if you just want to sign up for the mailing list, which will get you my Quickstart Guides to Writing, Pitching and Format. Basically what you need to write comics:
